about

This record marked a notable shift for Dan, as he made the jump from music that arguably falls under the umbrella of world-infused americana into full blown drum machine afrobeat madness. It's also worth noting that this was, verifiably, one of the first albums ever recorded using purely digital software (before ProTools was an industry standard, there was a prototype of the software called Digidrums)

Unlike Dan's previous works, this is a primarily rhythmic record — the drum machines and synthesized horn sections (there are real drums + horns on a handful of tracks don't get it twisted!) conjure auditory visions of Prince and Parliament Funkadelic, but presented with a more 80s "world music" flare.

That was always Dan's style, after all — combining distinct pieces of american music with challenging sounds from across the world, creating a fusion that united cultures and got people from all walks of life dancing.
